Chain: 18" Sterling Silver. Measures: .75" Diameter. Metal: Sterling Silver Frame. The craft of hand enameling coins reached its peak during the reign of Queen Victoria. During her golden jubilee in 1887 thousands of coins were elaborately enameled for use in brooches, stickpins and cufflinks. The enamel usually followed the outline of the coin design, with each color applied in individual layers. The process was complicated and time consuming, and few of these coins have survived. This 125 year old silver sixpence is a beautiful example of this long lost craft. Coin, which is set in a handcrafted sterling silver frame, comes with an 18" sterling silver necklace and descriptive card about the history of enameled coins.
