Chain: 16" Sterling Silver. Diameter: .75". The craft of hand enameling coins reached its peak during the reign of Queen Victoria. During her golden jubilee in 1887 thousands of coins were elaborately enameled for use in brooches, stickpins and cufflinks. The enamel usually followed the outline of the coin design, with each color applied in individual layers. The process was complicated and time consuming, and few of these coins have survived. This silver sixpence from the Golden Jubilee year of 1887 is a beautiful example of this long lost craft. On a sterling silver necklace. Includes a descriptive card about British enamelled coins.
