Newgate Prison.- Dickens (Charles) Barnaby Rudge, vol. IX only of 21 vol., colour frontispiece, illustrations, by Cattermole, Phiz and others, slightly browned, signed bookplate explaining the source of binding on front pastedown, bound in oak boards cut from the beams of the Main Gateway of Old Newgate Prison, leather spine, rubbed, t.e.g., others uncut, sm. 4to, 1901. Dickens famous account of the Gordon Riots and the assault on Newgate Prison.***"The Wood of which this Cover is made is cut from one of the Oak Beams over the Main Gateway of Old Newgate Prison. The Beams were externally charred by the fire lighted by the Gordon Rioters in 1780, when the Gate was burnt down.
