Austro-Hungarian Empire Era Court Sword. A beautiful court official's sword with a bright 31\ straight unmarked blade with deep fullers on either side. The ornate brass hilt features the Austrian two-headed eagle on the counter guard and a stylized serpent \"D\" guard extending to the mouth of the lion's head pommel. The mother of pearl plaque grips are mounted with floral motifs integral to the guard. The grip mounts display the initials \"FJI\" (Franz Joseph I) and the Latin motto \"Viribus Unitis\". The sword retains its wide gold-brocade and fringed knot. The sword has been over sprayed at a later date with matte gold paint which when removed should reveal the hilt's original warm patinated brass finish. The leather scabbard is in excellent condition though the mounts have likewise been over sprayed with matte gold paint. This is a visually appealing sword in excellent condition and easily restored to original condition."
