1888 Night Express Train Wreck Near Rockingham

The night of April6, 1888, near Rockingham, the Night Express, up from Bellows Falls and pulled by engine No. 21, Nathan Rice, hit a section of roadbed softened by a plugged culvert and the spring runoff. The engine was wrecked, its crew was killed the baggage car burned and the coach overturned. Miraculously the sleeper remained on the rails, unruffled and unharmed. From the Rutland road By Jim Shaughnessy it measures it measures 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 matted measures 8 x 10.

Condition report

Some wear in top left corner, and a small tear on the top right hand side. In as found condition.
