Bronze elephant by Carl Ethan Akeley (1864-1926). Akeley is considered the founder of modern taxidermy as well as a leading naturalist, conservationist and sculptor. This bronze is signed Carl E. Akeley, dated 1914 with the foundry mark, Roman Bronze Works N-Y- and titled Stung (on the base). Measures 9.25" in height.
