Pair of Chinese polychrome enameled porcelain vases, now mounted as lamps, early 20th century, each with a waisted long neck and globular body brightly decorated with red bats soaring amid multi-colored ruyi clouds, the shoulder encircled by a band depicting shou cartouche and lotus blossoms accented with scrolling tendrils, the recessed base bearing a six-character Guangxu mark, vase: 15"h; Provenance: Estate of Mr. and Mrs. C.K. Whittaker of Los Angeles and Rancho Santa Fe, CA
Condition reportChinese 'hundred bat' vases/lamps: Both with wear to gilt band at the shoulder, minor surface soiling and a few minute surface scratches; the bases each bearing a six character Guangxu mark drilled; dark pigment to the foot. One of the vases with a hairline crack to the recessed base along with an adhered label 'No: 6535 made in China', incised 'China' and stamped with a purple serial number. The second vase with patches of white reside to the recessed base. Note: did not inspect interior of vases.
