From the book jacket: "David M. Spear lives in his native rural landscape outside Madison, North Carolina. Born in 1937, he spent many years in the newspaper business. In the 1980s he began to take photographs in a serious way, and his study of his neighbors resulted in his first book, 'The Neugents: Close to Home.' His work is represented in suh major collections as the Museum of Modern Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston. He is the recipient of grants from the Guggenheim Foundation and the North Carolina Arts Council."
