Measures: .90" Diameter. Metal: Handcrafted Sterling Silver Frame. This coin is a silver grosso, issued by Francesco Foscari in Venice, Italy around 1450 A.D. Foscari was the Doge, or ruling elder, of Venice from 1423-1457. The obverse shows Jesus Christ seated on the throne. His head is surrounded with a halo. On these coins Christ is barefooted, which symbolizes his humbleness. The five dots on his robe symbolize the wounds suffered on the cross. The reverse has Francesco Foscari standing by Saint Mark, partron Saint of Venice. Together they hold a staff with the banner of Venice. Superb detail in this 600 year old coin. This example has some of the finest detail. The coin is framed in a handcrafted sterling silver border. For either a man or woman. Comes with descriptive brochure and Certificate of Authenticity.
