The head with bearded blade and stepped block, the peen formed as a hammer with rounded face. The wooden haft covered in blue velvet with iron mounts. Latter 18th century. Light wear overall. Formerly in the collection of George Curzon, Earl Curzon of Kedleston, Viceroy of India (1899-1905.) Earl Curzon was a major figure in British politics in South and Central Asia at the turn of the 20th century, and a keen collector of Eastern objects, with a particular interest in antique weapons. Deaccessioned from Kedleston Hall before 1987, in which year the mansion, grounds and most of the collection were given to the National Trust.Overall length 61.1 cm. Condition II
