A large and elegant example, the blade of pronounced crescent form, deeply bearded with knob finial. The lobed socket incised, the rectangular peen developing from a graceful stalk. Second half of the 15th century. Pitted and acid-cleaned, edge notched. Bit length cm. A. Melikian- Chirvani presents a quite similar axe, donated to the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, in 1886.
