A CONTINENTAL SILVER-HILTED SMALLSWORD

Perhaps German, with superbly embellished silver hilt, comprising double-clamshell guard, knucklebow and pommel, decorated en suite in baroque vinework motifs on a matted ground, together with wrought silver ferrules and original twisted silver wire gripwrap. The guard struck with a small, complex mark near the obverse center. The straight, double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section with etched panels at the forte involving a star and flowering vines. Mid-18th century. Guard slightly loose. Overall length 84.2 cm Condition I
