Very seldom encountered, of characteristic planked construction, and covered in boar’s hide with bristles intact. The surface set with brass and iron studs in geometrical motifs, a hemispherical brass boss at the center, with projecting quadrangular steel spike of considerable length. The reverse lined with an unidentified woolen tartan affixed with iron nails, the slings of deerskin. Mid-18th century. Wear to surface, tears to tartan. Some nails replaced, very minor losses to studs on obverse. Diameter 46 cm. Condition II
