Stocked in walnut, elaborately relief-carved at the butt with Ottoman stands of arms, a vinework border and chequered wrist. Intricately inlaid throughout with fine Ottoman vinework cartouches and borders in silver, the safety and windage sight inlaid in gold, the sight marked off in Ottoman characters and numerals. A cavalry carbine, with short barrel, fitted with but two sling rings and made without provision for a bayonet. Functional mechanism.Fourth quarter of the 19th century. Light wear overall, minor chipping to wrist. These weapons saw extensive use in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877. Carbines, especially those displaying a sophisticated level of embellishment, are very rarely encountered. Overall length 98.7 cm. Condition III
