A superior example, the hardwood stock of characteristic form, the sideplates forged of pattern-welded damascus steel with pierced borders, inscribed on the left, PRAY TO THE KING VADUHAR OF GREAT BHARATPUR. The fine barrel forged of intricately-detailed meandering pattern-welded damascus steel and further embellished at the breech and muzzle with heavy gold inlay in flowering vine motifs characteristic of Udaipur work. With scrolled trigger and ramrod of steel, the barrel bound to the stock with rawhide bands. Retains its leather wrist-strap.Bharatpur is the famed capital of the Jat Dynasty in Rajasthan, founded in 1733. Latter 18th century. Very minor wear, some rawhide lacking. Overall length 180 cm.
