Comprising a helmet and char aina or four body plates, formed entirely of saltwater crocodile hide. The helmet molded from the cranial section with brow ridges intact, the camail wrought of extremely fine rows of alternating solid and riveted rings just 3 mm in diameter. The body plates of rectangular form, those at the sides with characteristic concavity to the upper edge; each fitted with forged and profiled steel buckles, with original padded linings intact. Mid-17th century.Loss to one edge, one lining lacking. The hide probably acquired at Orissa and formed and mounted at Dellhi or Agra. Though animal-hide armor was widely used in India, crocodile is very rarely if ever encountered. Height of helmet and camail 44.5 cm. Condition II
