An exceptional example of gunsmithing, the fruitwood stock inlaid with silver wire at the butt and forearm, the silver mounts, including the buttcap, triggerguard, counterplate and ramrod thimbles, all finely engraved en suite. The percussion lock chiseled and heavily inlaid with gold in arabesques, the maker’s name engraved on a silver plaque, PLANCHAT A ST. ETIENNE. The round barrel with octagonal breech chiseled en suite in gold-inlaid arabesques and retained by gold-inlaid escutcheons and keys. The replaced ebony ramrod with worm finial. Mid-19th century. Light wear, moderate in spots with minor losses to silver and wood. Made for presentation to an Ottoman of note.Overall length 54.2 cm. Condition III
