Seldom encountered Polish or Hungarian work of classic form, the steel mounts comprised of an octagonal pommel cap and symmetrical guard with long quillons, langets and thumbring, with black leather-covered faceted wooden grip. The long, finely forged, single-edged blade with broad central fuller and robust, raised back edge, struck with a maker’s mark in the form of a cross at either forte. Second half of the 16th century. Light wear overall, rubbing and losses to grip leather. Overall length 89.3 cm. Condition II
