Exemplary of the high degree of artistry and skill achieved by Kubachi armorers, the obverse grip inlaid with engraved silver vinework with characteristic scrolled terminals and nielloed and gilt silver bosses, the reverse of horn. The lightly curved, robust, double-edged blade with single offset fuller to either side, forged of unusual and actively-patterned damascus steel, signed WORK OF BARSAN (?) at the forte. The velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large, elaborately engraved, nielloed and gilded silver mounts and gold-inlaid iron suspension band, the reverse with silver-mounted by-knife in its gilt galloon-bound pocket.Second quarter of the 19th century.Repairs to reverse of grip.Overall length 49.5 cm.
