Formed of a circular section of thick hide with black-lacquered craquelure surface, set with nine finely-engraved mounts of heavy silver, including five domed bosses with serrated edges and lotuses in rectangular cartouches, a pair of fishes, symbols of the primary Hindu deity Shiva, and crescent moons, symbols of the lunar god, Chandra. Retains its leather cushion and grips to reverse. Early 18th century. Light wear overall, part of cushion lacking. Overall diameter 40.3 cm. Condition II
