Description

Unusually fine workmanship from Epirus, the entire stock of silver, chiseled, engraved and nielloed in intricate baroque motifs involving garlands and floral sprays and the Byzantine double-headed eagle. The lock with stepped plate and elegantly-formed cock with engraved borders. The imported barrel engraved L. LAZARINO, together with a cartouche struck at the breech. The ramrod of characteristic form, decorated en suite with the pistol, with silver handle, the pommel chased in spiral bands of vinework, the faceted grip with alternating foliate panels, with brass ferrule and suspension band with belt-ring. A robust tricorn dagger blade is concealed within its iron case with geometrical profiling. Early 19th century.Minor corrosion to tail of lockplate, light wear to ramrod.Probably made in the same shop as those belonging to one of the most famous Greek revolutionaries, Petros Mavromichalis (1765-1848.)
