Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain with more than 300 illustrations; sold by subscription only; James R. Osgood and Company, Boston, 1883; First Edition, First State; hard cover; book condition is very good plus; original brown decorative cover boards with gilt design and gilt lettering on spine, gilt page ends; boards and binding are very strong; inside pages are bright and clean; has first edition points: the illustration of 'Twain in Flames' on page 441 (which was later changed by the author); page 443 has the caption 'The St. Louis Hotel' (instead of the corrected version 'The St. Charles Hotel); brown endpapers; filled with illustrations; outstanding first edition.
