Truly amazing historic account of a GI from Tallahassee, Florida, Monte Drake who spent the war at Oak Ridge and Los Alamos keeping detailed records through a scrap book and photographs of the then Top Secret project. The scrap book contains Newspaper accounts of the A-Bomb and also personal described photos of the post and personal shots of life in the area. There are shots of Trinity Site and camp buildings, Indian sites on the Manhattan district, and local sights such as Taos and the Grand Canyon. Lots of period postcards from the southwest, the scrapbook contains Drakes citations and a separate bag has his insignia which includes the patches issued to the Manhattan Project personnel of which only 3000 were issued. Drake who later became a Captain in the reserves saved his sterling Captain's bars which are included and there are several sets, and much more in this archive.
