Metal constructed prototype model, dated 1861, with "NY NY Navy Yard" stenciled on base of removable turret. Measures 34 inches in length with a height of 14 inches, and bearing strong resemblance to the USS Monitor, with turret boasting twin Dahlgren Shell Guns. Mechanically centered primarily around a geared shaft protruding from the hull into the turret, suggesting a prototype for the turret revolving pulley rail system. Early drawings of John Ericsson support the models design and complex steam powered turret geared shaft. At least two similar models are known to have existed, one of which is currently housed at the Truxton-Decatur Museum. Appears to have once been repainted, but is in overall very good condition, and provenanced to a well established collector in North Georgia.
