Mid 19th Century Sheffield made bowie knife, by S. C. Wragg Sheaf Island Works. Drop point blade just short of 7 inches in length. Acid etching on left side of knife reads "A SURE DEFENCE", surrounded by floral scroll. Maker marked ricasso. Nickel silver repousse handle, with flat oval guard. Leather over wood scabbard, embossed "S.C.W." on each side, with nickel silver throat, and missing chape. Frog rivet retains tattered leather frog. Some oxidization staining to blade. Overall very good example.
