A Native American trade axe in the form of a pipe tomahawk, from 19th Century northern midwest. Weeping heart cut out in blade, hand punch dotted, with pewter inlay on handle, and pewter mouth piece. Blade measures 10 inches, including pipe bowl, and handle measures 25 1/4 inches, with pewter cap and mouth piece. Blade shows a smooth brown patina, and wood handle appears original, showing patina from age and handling. Overall excellent example of a pipe axe trade piece. Hand written letter with tomahawk provides provenance to a specific and reputable collector.
