18TH CENTURY FRENCH SMALL SWORD ENGRAVED

18th Century French small sword with 32 inch blade decoratively engraved with floral scroll, and a motto translating to "Only honor would compel me to use". Bras hilt with gilt fittings "D" knuckle bow,and lunette guard. Grip is fine copper wire wrap. Maker marked Phillipon Marchand on ricasso. Mottled grey patina on blade, hilt excellent, no scabbard. Overall very good condition.
