MODEL 1850 FOOT OFFICERS SWORD C ROBY MANUFACTURE

US Model 1850 foot officer's sword, manufactured by C. Roby & Co., W. Chelmsford, Mass. 31 1/2 inch blade is finely decorated in acid etched floral scroll and patriotic motif. Brass hilt with gilt finish, and wire wrapped shagreen grip. Rolled steel scabbard, with gilt copper chape and bands, and two hang rings. Blade shows moderate oxidization damage towards end, but is otherwise very good, with clear and detailed etching. Some tarnish to hilt, with grip in very good condition. Scabbard shows dark patina, loss of gilt finish on bands and chape, but is free of significant dents. Overall very good example.
