A pre Civil War manufactured Colt 1849 Pocket Model .31 caliber revolver, carried throughout the entirety of the war as the personal side arm of Captain Loomis L. Langdon of Battery M, 1st US Field Artillery. 1st Artillery saw widespread service during the Civil War, including Occupation of Jacksonville, and The Battle of Olustee in Florida. Included with gun is a full listing of assignments and service Langdon participated in. Gun is also accompanied by a tin type of Langdon in uniform, and a letter of full provenance, written by Langdon's descendant, Robert Loomis Langdon. Letter is signed, notarized, and dated 1995. Engraved on the trigger guard of the gun is "G. Langdon", as the gun was the original property of Captain Langdon's father, George Langdon, who gifted it to him before he left for war. Serial numbered parts on gun are all matching, and date the manufacture to 1856. Two line Colt NY address on top of barrel, as well as "COLTS PATENT" on left side. "K" stamped at top of trigger guard, and "G" on left side brass. Stagecoach scene and "COLTS PATENT" on cylinder remain crisp and clear. Surface of gun is mostly patina, with some silver finish remaining on back strap and trigger area. Grips appear original and in very good condition. Cylinder remains tight and turns well, and gun appears overall mechanically sound. An overall museum quality artifact of Civil War history. Caliber: .31 Serial #: 120793
