Dated 1851 (MDCCCLi). Obv: profile bust with JOSEPHUS NEELD SCHOLAE HARROVIENSIS CUSTOS ATQUE GUBERNATOR legend with L. C. WYON FEC below. Rev: inscribed DILIGENTIAE IN STUD MATHEMAT PRAEMIUM ANNUM JOSE[HUS NEELD HARROVIENSIS PROPOSUIT A. S and date in eight lines within wreath. See Sainthill, Richard, An Olla Podrida, 1853; the Harrow School Archives have no record of this piece in silver. 46.08 grams, 45 mm. The Neeld Prize was instituted in 1851. An issued example is known in 18ct gold and with brilliant finish, named on the edge. Close examination of this silver example shows no trace of die wear and it is possible this this could be a trial or an original striking. The Prize is still awarded at Harrow School today but the issue of a medal has been superseded by a cash award.
