Greek Apulian Large Red Figure Ware Lekanis

Circa 4th century BC A ceramic red figure ware lekanis with broad shallow bowl, pedestal foot and loop handles and conical lid; the lid with running wave pattern to the rim, palmettes and ladies of fashion to the upper face, the handle with radiating rosette design; the busts and palmettes detailed with white and ochre slip to provide depth and texture to the portrayal. Ceramic, 970 grams, 26 cm (10 1/4") From the estate of a deceased North Country collector, acquired over a 30 year period from the early 1970's; ex Ancient Art, London.
