Circa 1st-2nd century AD An unusual utility tool brooch comprising: a shaft, hollow to the underside, formed as a pouncing lion, the extended forepaws forming a hinge; attached to the hinge a shallow spoon shaped as a scallop shell with incised detail to the underside; at the upper end, a folding iron knife blade; to the underside the pin-lugs and pin. Silver, 16 grams, 84 mm (3 1/4") Ex David Winter collection, Kent.
