Circa 4th century AD A fabricated bronze crossbow brooch with onion terminals to the arm and a third at the head of the bow; the arm with scrolled decorative detail to the upper face; the footplate with openwork border of heart-shaped elements and incised portraits in circular panels on a punched-point field; traces of gilding on the arm, footplate and bow; to the reverse, the top of the pin and closed catchplate still in place. Gilt-bronze, 70 grams, 85 mm (3 1/2") From the private collection of an German Gentleman, acquired prior to 1982.
