Circa 1st-2nd century AD A mixed group of cast bronze facial mounts comprising: a human male face on a discoid surround, with hair framing; a lion's face with prominent muzzle and mane surrounding; a face of Mithras wearing the Phrygian cap, with abundant hair; supplied with old collector's labels with findspots. Bronze, 57 grams, 18-35 mm. (3/4-1 1/2") Private UK collection, by descent from the vendor's father, a metal detectorist, who formed his collection in the 1970's-1980's, from his own finds and by buying from a shop in Cambridgeshire, owned by Alan Fordham. From an old collection with findspot details. Part of this collection was previously sold at Bonham's Antiquities sale 17855, 6 October 2010, Lot 199; and in TimeLine Auctions June 2011 sale. [3]
