Byzantine Gold Inlay and Epigraphic Band

Circa 10th-12th century AD An organic disc with gold disc stud to one face and band to the circumference; the stud with incised image of a bird; the band with incised text [cross] tau-epsilon-lunate sigma-lunate sigma-[?]-gamma-lambda '+TESS[?]GL'. Gold, 2.50 grams, 13 mm (1/2") UK private collection, acquired in the 1950's.

Fine condition. Rare.
