Circa 2nd-3rd century AD A hollow gold bracelet with serpent head and tail terminals; the tail extending to a fine rod coiled around the upper body; provincial workmanship. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Jewellery Greek, Etruscan and Roman in the Departments of Antiquities British Museum, item 2881. Gold, 19 grams, 95 mm (3 3/4") The property of a London City Gentleman acquired in Europe during the mid-1900's. The Hellenistic styles of ornament continued in production in the provincial workshops of the Eastern Roman empire into the 4th century AD and later.
