Roman Gold Coiled Bracelet

Circa 2nd-3rd century AD A hollow gold bracelet with twisted wire terminals, each coiled around the band to secure; provincial workmanship. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Jewellery Greek, Etruscan and Roman in the Departments of Antiquities British Museum, item 2803. Gold, 27 grams, 69 mm (2 3/4") The property of a London City Gentleman acquired in Europe during the mid-1900's. The Hellenistic styles of ornament continued in production in the provincial workshops of the Eastern Roman empire into the 4th century AD and later.
