Near Eastern Gold Plated Huma Bird Bust

Achaemenid Empire, circa 550-330 BC A cast bronze bust of the mythical huma bird, the face modelled with pointed ears, round eyes, hooked beak and ribbed crest; the base pierced with circular holes; remains of gold plate to the neck. Gilt-bronze, 30 grams, 34 mm (1 1/2") Private collection, Birmingham, UK; acquired 1960's. This item is accompanied by an XRF ancient metal test certificate from Oxford X-ray Fluorescence Ltd.

Very fine condition. Rare.
