Circa 5th century AD A pair of silver bow brooches with bronze fittings, each comprising: a flat pentagonal headplate decorated with cast bronze chip-carved edge-trims with collared knop above, central cast bronze plate with collared knop and addorsed bird-heads above a hexagonal plate with notch to respect the bow, and radiating incised lines; the carinated bow deeply curved and hollow to the rear; the footplate long, leaf-shaped, slightly facetted; to the reverse of the headplate, a bronze reinforcement plate at the junction with the bow, spring pin-mount and fittings for attachment of separately cast bronze knops, traces of mineralised textile; to the reverse of the footplate, a bronze tubular catchplate. cf.
