Circa 6th century AD A cast bronze bow brooch comprising a trefoil head with ring-and-dot motif in each arm, D-section bow with ring-and-dot motif to the centre, lozengiform footplate with four ring-and-dot motifs; the finial a raised pyramid with incised transverse line suggesting a serpentine head; to the reverse, two pin lugs and remains of the catchplate. cf. similar small-long trefoil brooch from Barrington, Cambridgeshire, published in MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E. A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections (Non-Ferrous Metals"), item 15.78. Bronze, 15 grams, 77 mm. (3") Ex Binks collection; found Barham, Kent, 2002. The small-long group of brooches is very diverse in its design, and found across most areas of the south and east of England. [No Reserve]
