Circa 6th-8th century AD A cast bronze pendant, gilded, formed as a trapezoidal plate with domed central feature, hollow to the underside; the field with chip-carved banded hair detail, the dome a human mask with elliptical eyes; to the upper edge a pierced suspension plate. Gilt bronze, 3.35 grams, 25 mm (1") Ex David Winter collection, Kent. The stylised human mask is similar to examples found on Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mounts.
