Circa 18th century AD A painted provincial Russian wooden plaque depicting a religious scene with eight nimbate standing figures surrounding a nimbate seated male in ecclesiastical vestments supporting an open book in his left hand and offering a benediction with his right; the central nimbus completely gilded, the others gilded in outline; the painted area recessed into the block, two dovetailed slots to the rear. Wood, 1.1 kg, 30cm. (11 1/2") Believed to be of Russian origin; from an old Suffolk collection.

Very fine condition, some repainting.
