Medieval Walnut Pieta Carving

Circa 15th century A walnut block carved in the round depicting the body of Christ cradled by Mary; the body of Christ with long hair and neat beard, wearing a loincloth, the marks of the nails on the hands; Mary with voluminous robe and hood, one hand supporting Christ's chest and the other placed on his waist; mounted on a custom-made base. Wood, 2.7 kg, 37 cm (14 1/2") Ex Dr Wilhelm Pinder collection, formed in the 1930's, his old label on the base 'no 118...'.

Very fine condition, some reworking. Rare.
