Circa 13th-15th century AD A cast bronze heraldic pendant with transverse loop, formed as a lozenge with red enamel field, central cross and four stars. Bronze, 9.70 grams, 45 mm (1 3/4") From an important collection of heraldic pendants; Essex, UK. The arms of the Ballantyne family of Scotland includes a cross between four mullets. The use of a lozenge rather than a shield indicates that the bearer was a noblewoman.
