Circa 13th-14th century AD An important bronze heraldic pendant with transverse loop above, formed as a heater shield with gilt detail and blue enamel field; the arms of the Camden family: azure a fess engrailed between six crosses crosslet fitchee. Bronze, 16 grams, 44 mm (1 3/4") From an important collection of heraldic pendants; Essex, UK. Spelling variations of this family name include Camden and Campden, amongst others. First found in Gloucestershire where they were seated from before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 AD. One of the first American settlers of this family name or some of its variants was Charles Camden who arrived in Philadelphia Pa. in 1850.
