Circa 14th century AD A cast pewter pilgrim's badge formed as a square plate with attachment loops to sides and lower corners; the upper edge formed as two spires with trefoil heads; to the centre, two figures, one with mitre and robes, lozenge-headed staff and cross above; the text in rustic capitals 'SPE SPA' above the figures, for Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Pewter, 8.85 grams, 43 mm (1 1/2") Property of a European Gentleman living in the UK; ex private collection formed in the 1990's. The figures of SS Peter and Paul appear on papal bulls issued by the Vatican.
