Circa 18th century AD A gold finger ring with D-section hoop, to the outer face an inscribed skull, to the inner an inscription in a neat italic hand 'Telc rapuisse vini Mors ipsa pudebit F.L.' (...death itself is ashamed") and maker's mark 'RR' behind. Gold, 4.98 grams, 20 mm overall (approximate size British L 1/2, USA 6, Europe 11.87, Japan 11") (3/4") Property of a Hampshire Gentleman; acquired before 1990; found near Winchester, 1976.
