Circa 16th century AD A cast pewter heraldic badge formed as a heater shield with hatched cross over a field of roundels; attachment points to the reverse. Pewter, 5.99 grams, 37 mm (1 1/2") Private collection, Nottinghamshire, UK; acquired late 1980's-early 1990's; found Thames Foreshore, London, UK, 1985. The hatched texture is used in heraldry to denote the colour sanguine (blood-red") and the roundels for or (gold").
