Indian Gilt-Hilted Jewelled Knife

Circa 19th-20th century AD A fine gilt-hilted dagger with triangular lentoid-section blade; the grip formed in gold sheet over a bronze core, with repousse foliate ornament; the pommel biconical with running foliate scroll ornament to upper and lower faces, hatching to the rim; the central section a ribbed cone with knop finial, surrounded by a band of seventeen red garnets in cabochon settings. 275 grams, 31 cm (12") Acquired on the London art market in the 1960's.
