Circa 14th century AD An iron axe head with D-section socket and broad, flared blade; the surface of the socket divided into square panels with bronze inlay borders and star motifs; the blade inlaid on both faces with pelletted bands at top and bottom and a panel of inlaid star motifs to the centre. Iron, 265 grams, 90 mm (3 1/2") Acquired on the London art market in the 1960's.
